Sevenoaks Catenians

The Catenians

The Catenian Association

From its origins in England in the early 20th century, the Catenians Association has grown to be an international association of Catholic laymen.

The Association is not a fund raising agent for the Catholic Church, nor is it a Catholic action group. However, it is a group of active Catholics. On an individual basis, Catenians take an active part in the life of their parishes and many play a leading role in their dioceses and Catholic lay organisations locally and nationally.

The Objects of Membership

These are:

·  to encourage members to meet socially;

·  to assist where possible, with justice to others, their business interests;

·  to provide benevolence for needy members and their families, and to widows and children of deceased members when necessary; and

·  to assist Catholic youth to find suitable employment.

Obligations of Membership

A member is expected to be an exemplary Catholic and by the wholehearted practice of his faith to encourage others in their religious practice.

Members

Catenian men meet socially, at least once a month, in local branches, known as Circles. Members refer to each other as 'brother'. This reflects the strength of the mutual support they give to each other and their families, which is based on the shared values of their Catholic belief and practice.

Social Events

The Sevenoaks circle provides a wide variety of social events throughout the year. There are plenty of opportunities to meet fellow members and their families, whether at a formal dinner and dance or informal tenpin bowling or a family quiz night.
